The chooks behind Bowalley Free Range eggs
Our hens begin the day by laying their eggs in nest boxes. The eggs are then collected fresh each day to be hand packaged for you by our friendly team. After laying, the birds then can go outside to play in the winter garden or the range area. In the range area, hens entertain themselves by venturing out in the paddock and finding obstacles such as the solar panels to play on and interacting with the sheep that are a natural method of pasture management. Similar to us, on days with extreme weather, both in heat and rain, the hens prefer to stay indoors where temperatures are regulated.
The hens enjoy a varied diet from feed specially made for them which mostly consists of the wheat and barley grown on the farm and any natural sources of nutrition found in the range such as insects. This nutrient-rich diet allows our hens to be happy and healthy to lay fresh, delicious eggs for you each day. The hen’s manure is also high in nutrients which makes for a great natural base fertiliser to grow the wheat and barley.
